And if they happen to be in space, so what? It’s all about our humanity even as we head into the future. It has characters from every walk of life and it doesn’t shy away from asking tough questions of the characters and audience. You can have a great plot, but if no one likes or can relate or can even understand what they are going through it’s just not worth it, and that’s what sets Firefly apart. The characters are what will be most important when it comes to shows. But back to the characters in this amazingly bizarre mixture of genres. Firefly is a mixture of all things good in Star Wars, Star Trek, and classic westerns. Not to mention, it takes on the sci-fi western genre to a whole new level. Firelfy is about the characters and how they react when put into difficult situations. So if you’re into shows for that Michael Bay type of action… 1. What makes this show special? Here we go.įirefly is all about the characters and their development. So as I ask myself every week… so what? Great show? Check. But I don’t think most of you reading this will understand my undying love for these Whedon favorites. I could go on and on about Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau… the cast is a flawless one to say the least. He’s on ABC’s Castle now with Stana Katic (a Russian actress with more talent than I can comprehend), but most importantly he was on Dr. Equally as talented is Nathan Fillion, every Whedon cult member’s favorite hero. You can find her and her talented self on the USA show Suits, which I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a smart and witty show about law. The constant switch from criminals to heroes is always an exciting thing to watch, and with actors like these? How could you not love it.įirefly has some of my all time favorite actors in the business. They do what they need to do in order to survive in the post-war world of space where “browncoat” is the dirtiest word around. Mal Reynolds and his crew go flying around in a spaceship fighting bad guys and sometimes being bad guys to survive in the harsh conditions they live in. Firefly is the story of Mal, the captain of Serenity, after a civil war… that happened in space. Not only does this show incorporate space and Nathan Fillion, but it also adds in that western theme that everyone secretly loves. Looking for sci-fi, but don’t want to give up that western feel? You’ve found the show for you. Quite possibly the greatest cult television show of all time.
